MCPA Certification: Validating MCP Expertise at AGNTCon + MCPCon Europe
At AGNTCon + MCPCon Europe in Amsterdam, the Agentic AI Foundation announced the launch of the Model Context Protocol Associate (MCPA) certification — the first vendor-neutral credential validating engineering and platform builders’ understanding of the Model Context Protocol.

What Is MCPA?
The MCPA certification covers:
- MCP concepts — the fundamentals of how the protocol connects AI agents to tools, data, and services
- Architecture — the design patterns and system-level decisions that make MCP work at scale
- Implementation considerations — practical guidance for building, deploying, and operating MCP-compatible systems
The exam is designed for developers, platform engineers, and technical architects who are building or evaluating agentic AI systems using MCP.
Why MCP Certification Matters Now
MCP has gone from a protocol experiment to the most adopted agent standard in just over a year. With 89% adoption among agentic AI practitioners (per the 2024 AAIF Member Pulse Survey), MCP has become the de facto standard for agent-to-tool connectivity.
As David Soria Parra, co-creator of MCP and Member of Technical Staff at Anthropic, noted in his keynote at AGNTCon: “MCP’s move to a stateless architecture and formal deprecation policy means enterprises can now adopt it with confidence.”
The MCPA certification gives practitioners a way to validate their knowledge of these evolving standards — from the basics of MCP’s stateless core to the new extensions framework and enterprise authorization changes.
